Saxum Real Estate, a Parsippany-based company, on Tuesday will present its redevelopment plans the Historic Preservation Commission. The company purchased the theater from Bow Tie Cinemas in February 2017.
The commission must approve construction plans -- which include a mix of residential and commercial -- as the theater is designated as a historic building.
A new theater along with apartments and retails stores have been proposed, TapInto reports.
The Save Historic Madison Theater Committee was launched by resident David Hanna, who feels the theater is an important historic landmark, according to TapInto.
The group recently held a rally on the movie theater's steps, circulated a petition that garnered nearly 2,000 signatures and had shirts made to show their support Tuesday.
